Logan Hunter & Hannah May, Arkansas wood fire potters, making functional pottery

We met in college as undergrads in the University of Arkansas at Little Rock art program, while Logan was building the programs first wood fired kiln and I was working on a thesis show of tea sets. We've been sharing ideas with each other ever since and currently are working in our shared home studio.

We love making vessels for coffee, tea, food, and cocktail hour. We make both wood-fired and electric cone 6 fired pottery and have been working in a porcelain clay body recently.

Our styles influence one another but are distinct. Logan draws inspirations from various traditional and modern, minimalist forms, but decorates them with patterns that reflect on his childhood growing up on a farm. He uses hand carved paddles and drawing techniques with slip inlay. My forms and decoration pull from my admiration for tea culture and traditions in England and India. I incorporate Indian and Victorian patterns with slip trailing and stain drawing.

Originally from Nebraska. Studied drawing and ceramics at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. BA studio art. Teaches adult drawing classes at Arkansas Arts Center museum school and children's drawing at Art Center of the Grand Prairie.
